Travel Insurance
Do I Really Need It?
It’s a big question – Many people feel trip insurance is unnecessary and a waste of money which they would rather keep for traveling, but when you actually think about how much you will spend during your trip on airfare, lodging, tours and everything in between, it becomes evident that the benefits of having insurance far outweigh the oversight of not having it. Peace of mind is nice and healthy to have while you travel!
No one expects to cancel or interrupt a planned trip or to incur costs due to emergency medical expenses or lost luggage. Such events may occur and having solid insurance protection at that crucial moment can make all the difference in the world. AirTreks has found several good policies that cover clients for the unusual length of the typical AirTrek. We encourage all of our clients to protect their travel investment with even the most basic policy.
We have provided some examples of coverage below:
-
Trip Cancellation (optional):Protects your investment, up to the full trip cost, in the event of the unexpected.
-
Trip Delay:Recover expenses whether your trip is interrupted, delayed or you miss your connection.
-
Medical Expense / Evacuation:Coverage for medical expenses if you become sick or injured.
-
Flight Coverage:Add-on or Stand-alone flight accident coverage up to $1 million.
-
Family Value:Children under 16 are covered at no additional cost (except for optional plan add-ons) when accompanied by a covered adult. The children must be a Family Member of the primary insured.
Including trip cancellation coverage is a great way to protect your investment against the unexpected. Trip cancellation coverage also offers travelers trip interruption coverage for up to 150% of their trip cost depending on the policy chosen.

Why should I purchase Travel Protection when I have other insurance policies?
Travel Protection combines insurance coverage’s and travel assistance services into a comprehensive package that protects both you and your investment - before and during your trip.
Our recommended providers offer comprehensive policies including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption benefits. This coverage can protect you against losing your travel investment to travel suppliers, like tour operators, if you should cancel within their non-refundable cancellation period.
Credit card insurance policies may protect you for flight accidents, car rental damage or for accidental death while traveling, but this protection is usually only offered to you when you purchase your tickets with that particular credit card. Make sure you read the fine print for your credit card(s) terms and conditions, if paying with credit card(s), so that you will be well aware before you travel.

TRIP CANCELLATION / TRIP DELAY / TRIP INTERRUPTION
We missed our connection because of a canceled/delayed flight. What can I do?
You arrive in your connecting city but your flight is no where to be found, and the next available flight is not until the next day. Our providers do have policies for travel delays covering accommodations and meals. You can also choose a plan that excludes trip cancellation coverage but still includes a full range of benefits to protect you during your trip, including coverage for trip delay, medical evacuation / repatriation, baggage and baggage delay, itinerary change and much more!
My travel supplier just declared bankruptcy.
Common carriers with financial difficulties are becoming increasingly common. Purchasing trip cancellation/interruption coverage from providers like Travelex or WorldNomads can protect you and your trip investment against such an occurrence.
Why is Trip Cancellation/Interruption protection important?
Most travel suppliers, whether they are Tour Operators, Hotels, Travel Agencies, Cruise lines or Airlines, have cancellation penalties. You pay a deposit or final payment toward a trip and these suppliers may apply their published penalties to your trip. You will find the published penalties more severe as your scheduled departure date gets closer. These published penalties inform you that if you cancel, the supplier will hold all or a large percentage of your monies placed as down payment, deposit or final payment. You will lose this money. Trip Cancellation and Interruption is designed to reimburse you for your loss if you cancel or interrupt for a covered reason.

MEDICAL EVACUATION
We were traveling when I suddenly developed chest pains.
When a medical emergency happens far away from home and from proper medical facilities, you want to ensure you receive adequate care. We have medical evacuation benefits that will cover emergency transportation for you to the nearest care facility or even back home.

LUGGAGE
I arrived but my luggage did not. What should I do?
Whether your bag or bags are lost or merely delayed, you can be reimbursed for the purchase of clothing and personal articles so you can enjoy your vacation or business trip.
And if you decide to ship your luggage ahead of time to your destination(s) via a luggage shipping service like
Luggage Forward
you can find out more information on what will be covered in case your bags are lost. You may want to get separate insurance that covers your luggage.
