Myths of Travel

The internet is a vast place and there are many stories that are told about travel. We have compiled some of the most common Around the World travel myths that are untrue in hopes of making your journey easier to plan.

Round-trip airfares are always the least expensive. Pricing for adding a few extra international stops is insignificant, but the value added is enormous.
You can always find better deals at the last minute. If you wait seats may be gone, and airlines usually increase pricing on the last remaining seats.
You can book tickets more than a year in advance. No one is able to book more than a year out. It’s a universal rule.
Business and first class is only a fraction more than economy class. Generally, the price is about three times that of economy/coach. Being able to recline is not cheap.
You can change the name on a ticket. You can’t transfer the ticket to another person.
You always have the choice to book a one-way international ticket, instead of a roundtrip or departure ticket. Some countries require that you have a departure ticket in place or else you might be refused entry to that country. Check with your agent.
Secondary cities are much more expensive. They can be but if that’s where your destinations lie then flying direct to secondary cities can be a better value.
"Off season" trips save money but leave travelers disappointed. "Off season" or off peak traveling is usually less expensive and is the least busy travel period. Shoulder season can even be a better time to travel.
It’s always best to spend frequent flier miles over real money. Frequent flier programs are quickly becoming invaluable, problematic and a hassle to actually use. The amount of restrictions may make your trip what the airline wants and not what you want.
Something bad may happen to you while on your trip. Something bad may actually happen to you at home and in your own country. It’s easy to be prepared for your trip to minimize anything bad happening.
Flying in large airplanes is dangerous. Driving a car near home is more dangerous.
It is too dangerous to travel alone. Traveling alone is liberating. Staying home alone can be dangerous!
